Well not exactly planned, more a case of not getting around to it but still not packed for tomorrow’s trips to the Lake District has turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as our plans changed totally and would have made my original gear selection pointless.
I personally prefer to travel by train as the 7 hour car journey leaves a lot to be desired and a nap and an iPod movie on the train is far more attractive. However as there were to be three of us the train at £93 seemed far too expensive and we made plans to take a car. With this in mind I did intend to take the Fat Airic sleeping mat for a bit of comfort and also the Vango Banshee 200 tent which I considered using as a base camp tent which would allow us to leave the car at a camp site in the even of any wild camping. As the week wore on though we changed the plan and opted for the train, which I think is the far better option.
So kit wise Im going lightweight, or as light as my gear allows, so the Laser Competition & Slim Airic will be taken with my only sleeping bag the Alpkit Pipedream 600. The 600 some may consider to be too warm for now, but Im convinced Im a cold sleeper and this weekend will see if thats still the case, although a slightly lighter bag would be nice right now.
So off to pack the rucksack shortly, curse Ive packed too much as always and end up forgetting something important, then up nice and early to catch a 7:40 train !

Have a good trip, the lakes are still one of my favourite places to visit.I will look forward to reading your report next week.
Another blogger John Hee http://walkaboutuk.blogspot.com/
is also heading up to the lakes this weekend. You never know your paths may cross
Thanks Graham.
Certainly a fantastic place and think Ill be seeing a wetter version than Ive seen over the past 11 months!
Johns plan looks very nice, hopefully we will stumble on a similar location, although with our lack of experience we may be sticking closer to the “tourist” traps for now.
Ever thought of using a tarp/bivvybag instead of a tent? Much lighter!
I shall be putting some pics of your tarp up when we get back !
PS Still not packed, its almost 11 and need to be up in 7 hours. eek!
